The 13th International Shari’ah Scholars Forum (ISSF) is scheduled to open today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia under the theme ‘Islamic Social Finance: Realities and Prospects’. The forum is jointly organized by the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, in partnership with International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA).
Holding from 1-2 October 2018, the forum aims to provide a platform for Shari’ah scholars and Islamic finance practitioners to engage in a high-level discussion on Islamic finance and value-based intermediation.
It will bring together panels of Shari’ah experts to address and discuss emerging trends in Islamic social finance as well as highlight the role of stakeholders in developing a robust future for the sub-sector.
The focus on Islamic social finance is significant, given the recent developments and investments in the industry to meet the growing global demand for ethical and value-based financial intermediation.
Malaysia’s Minister of Education Dr. Maszlee Malik will officiate the forum, while the keynote speech will be delivered by his Excellency Shaykh Ebrahim bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI). The closing ceremony will be graced by Dato’ Dr. Mujahid Yusof, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs.
The first day of the ISSF will focus on ‘Value-Based Intermediation: Prospects and Challenges’, while the second day will discuss ‘Islamic Social Financing Instruments: Concepts and Principles’.
The Shari’ah experts attending the forum include Professor Dr. Mohamad Akram Laldin, Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, Professor Dr. Ashraf Md Hashim, Shaykh Professor Dr. Ali Muhyiddin Al-Qaradaghi, Shaykh Dr. Abdul Sattar Abu Ghuddah, Shaykh Dr. Nizam M.S. Yaquby, Shaykh Professor Dr. Mohamed Ali Elgari, Shaykh Professor Dr. Muhammad Abdul Razak Al-Tabtaba’i and Shaykh Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar.
The 13th ISSF is being held in conjunction with the Global Islamic Finance Forum (GIFF), scheduled for 3-4 October 2018 in Kuala Lumpur.
