Minhaj University Lahore and the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group co-organized the 2nd World Islamic Economics and Finance Conference under the theme “Adaptability and Dependability: Oriental and Empirical Innovation in Islamic Finance”.
The conference, which took place in Lahore, Pakistan on 5-6 January 2019, provided a platform for leading policymakers, academics and other stakeholders from around the world to discuss new insights and policy ideas for the Islamic economics and finance industry.
The participants discussed issues related to Islamic finance and banking adaptability and innovation in the face of disruptive economy. The event also provided practitioners the opportunity to hear different perspectives from top Islamic finance practitioners and scholars pertaining to specific countries’ experiences and challenges.
In addition, the conference’s academic committee selected three papers for the Best Paper Award, which was sponsored by IRTI. Authors of the selected papers were each given US$1,000 and certificates of appreciation for their contribution to the field of Islamic economics and finance.
The three selected papers were: The Practice of Murabahah Financing according to the AAOIFI Standard: Analysis on Islamic Banks in Pakistan; Business Zakat Reporting of Islamic Financial Institutions: Case Study in Malaysia; and The Role and Governance of Waqf for Achieving Poverty Alleviation and Social Justice in Islam: Case Study of Indian Muslims.
