Capacity Development

About Training

The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) aims to develop human capital through organizing training programs, orientation, and knowledge seminars, using traditional as well as modern technology-based learning methods. Training activities also involve improving quality, efficiency, impact and cost-effectiveness of capacity development programs, resource mobilization, developing training packages, and building partnerships with institutions from the public and the private sectors.

IsDBI endeavors to provide IsDB Member Countries (MCs) with the necessary learning leading to development solutions. Training activities are built based on the available knowledge inside and outside IsDBI , and usually courses are delivered based on the needs expressed by the MCs. The training activities are also integrated and in line with the global efforts of the IsDB Group to support economic and social development in MCs.

In implementing its training activities, IsDBI maintains close liaison with national, regional and international institutions of repute and centers of excellence. IsDBI training courses are provided in each of the three official languages of IsDB, namely Arabic, English and French, covering the following themes:

Capacity Development Programs (CDP)

In this category, courses are organized in collaboration with the national institutions designated by the IsDB Governors of the host countries. Participants in these courses are nominated by the respective IsDB Governors of the invited country. Based on coverage, IsDBI training courses fall in one of the following categories:

  • Local: In such courses, participants come from the host country only.
  • Regional: In these courses, in addition to participants from the host country, participants from selected IsDB Member Countries are also invited through their respective IsDB Governors.

Fee-Based Learning Program

In this category, courses are mainly organized in collaboration with the private sector institutions at local and regional levels under mutually agreed terms and conditions. Courses are fee-based. Participants may be selected from either the private sector or the public sector without necessarily seeking the consent of the IsDB Governors.

Tailored and Customized Learning Programs

In this category, courses are fee-based, customized and tailor-made to suit to specific requirements of any region, country or organization.

MOOCs on edX Platform

In 2015, IsDBI launched the Online Learning Program (OLP) to provide Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in Islamic Finance and Banking through the edX online learning platform. This program has offered ten courses so far. The courses have been archived and are therefore available for interested learners to take at their own pace.
