The Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) and the Academy of Financial Economic Studies in Sudan have jointly organized a workshop on Public Private Partnership (PPP) for Financing Infrastructure Projects.
The workshop, held in Khartoum from 13 to 15 May 2018, was aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge about the PPP concept and its importance in procurement of infrastructure and services.
As PPPs are useful in procuring infrastructure and services, the training program focused on better use of PPP as a tool to deliver new or upgraded infrastructure. This will facilitate extracting the greatest possible value from PPPs in order to help countries to fill the infrastructure gap by accessing more private capital and expertise in an efficient and systematic manner. This is especially true for IDB member countries and other developing economies.
The workshop’s main objectives were to introduce the PPP concept as an option to procure and manage infrastructure, and to explain PPP’s main characteristics. The program also introduced aspects of PPPs that include the relevance and features of a proper PPP framework and the entire PPP process cycle.

Participants from the new PPP department in the Sudan Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning attended the workshop. They expressed their interest in the details of the technical aspect of the PPP management and the different challenges in financing PPP projects using different Islamic modes of finance.
