The Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) has organized a training course on the regulation and supervision of Islamic banks, in partnership with the Algerian Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF).
This was the third training course organized by IRTI and ABEF under a memorandum of understanding signed to facilitate collaboration in Islamic finance capacity development.
The course, entitled “Regulation and Supervision of Islamic Banks” and held from 9-11 December 2018 in Algiers, focused on providing an understanding of the principles of supervision and regulation of Islamic banks.
It also covered the specificities of Islamic banks and the typology of their risks compared to conventional banks, as well as the application of international banking regulations to Islamic banks.
Participants from the Algerian Central Bank, Ministry of Finance, and commercial banks attended the program, in which they also learnt about the experience of Tunisia in implementing Islamic finance and establishing new Islamic banks.
