The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) successfully hosted a conference on the System of National Accounts and Economic Globalization in Istanbul, Türkiye, from 1-6 August 2022.
Fifty-five participants from 16 countries participated in the conference, along with 16 experts from the ADB, IsDBI, and IsDB Group Regional Hub, Türkiye.
The conference benefitted 16 countries of which 15 are IsDB Member Countries. This collaboration culminates years of technical assistance provided by the ADB with the support of IsDB in the development and enhancement of national statistics.
In the technical session on the System of National Accounts, participants from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Georgia, as well as sector specialists from the ADB and the IsDBI shared their knowledge and experiences on the compilation of National Accounts Statistics. The conference took place in the midst of unprecedented crises with countries trying to recover lost ground amid a dismal global economic outlook.
The second part of the conference focused on Economic Globalization with specific reference to the importance of trade, digital economy and tourism in relation to economic growth.
This joint conference was lauded as highly successful by all participants who called for continued collaboration between the IsDBI and ADB to support them in the compilation of high-quality data which is a prerequisite for effective targeted interventions.
The IsDBI remains committed to promoting the generation of statistics that are relevant, responsive, and reliable in order to support evidence-based policies and interventions in IsDB Member Countries. The Institute will continue to work with development partners across the globe in pursuit of this objective to provide timely data in support of evidence-based decision-making.
