The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) and the Company for Habitat and Housing in Africa (Shelter Afrique) jointly organised a virtual training program entitled “Capacity Building for Islamic Finance Product Development”.
The program was held from 31 May and 2 June 2022 to respond to the growing need for Islamic finance products that satisfy the needs for Shariah-compliant housing finance. Shelter Afrique aims to launch innovative housing finance products that cater to Muslim clients in their member countries.
Six training sessions were held during the two-day workshop, covering the fundamentals of Islamic finance, proposed products and modules for housing finance, issues and challenges of housing finance in member countries, and features and types of Sukuk for fund mobilisation.
Twenty participants attended the training program from the treasury, legal department, and the regional company offices in Morocco, Nigeria and Senegal. The management of Shelter Africa and the training participants expressed satisfaction with the program delivery and the technical workshop recommendations. They also discussed the possibility of conducting additional programmes and technical assistance in the near future.
Mr Abozer Mohamed, a Senior Islamic Finance Specialist at IsDBI, delivered the training sessions for this program, where he shared the experiences of IsDB member countries in Islamic housing finance.
