Training on Technical and Operational Aspects of Sukuk for Yemen Central Bank

The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) and the Central Bank of Yemen jointly organized a virtual training program entitled “Technical and Operational Aspects of Sukuk”.

The program was held from 23 to 26 May 2022 as a response to the request of the Central Bank of Yemen to enhance its employees’ knowledge and skills concerning Sukuk.

Twelve training sessions were presented during the four-day workshop. The sessions covered the fundamentals of Islamic finance, features and types of Sukuk, the social impact of Sukuk, objectives and economic functions of Sukuk, Shari’ah rules for Sukuk issuance, risk and rating of Sukuk, and structures of Sukuk. The course was supplemented with case studies to elaborate and link the topics with real world challenges.

A total of 19 participants from the Central Bank of Yemen attended the training program from the departments of treasury, Sukuk, banking supervision and research. Mr. Hussein Alquaiti, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, and his team expressed their satisfaction with the training program delivery and the technical workshop recommendations.

Mr. Abozer Mohamed, Senior Islamic Finance Specialist at IsDBI, and Dr Fath Al-Rahman Ali, Assistant Manager of Financial Investment Bank in the Republic of Sudan, delivered the training sessions for this program.
